Acceptance

The idea of accepting something as the “the way it is” seems to give off the notion that acceptance has more of a negative association than a positive.  We accept others for their flaws. We accept the fact that our country is growing increasingly in debt. We accept that we could have done better. We accept that things do not always go as planned (oh I know that all too well). We accept that death is a part of life.

All this acceptance may lead us to think that we are not the “shapers” of our own destinies; that we are all bound to a certain fate. That we would have to give in to a lack of ability. To give in to our insecurities. To give in to financial ruin. To give in to hopelessness.

Acceptance feels like a passive action. To take the hit and not strike back. It could very well be passive, but it doesn’t have to be. We can choose to accept the strengths instead of the flaws. We can accept the fact that new businesses are popping up each day. Accept that there will be a next time, and that we will do better then. Accept that death is not the end of life; it is merely a transition into something beyond our imaginations.

We can acknowledge what has passed and that the future is never set in stone. Accept that our fates are intertwined with our actions now and not a pre-written page in the story of our lives. We are actively painting the individual paths before us. To accept that what we do in our time on Earth, matters more than you’ll ever know.
